Children’s Sunday Morning Programs
3 Years-5 Years (PreK) Classes at 9:30 and 11:00am
Interactive classes help children understand basic Biblical truths through storytelling, puppetry, singing, and a variety of hands-on activities. Classes meet for a full hour. At 9:30, three year olds meet in room 118; and four year olds/ Pre-K five year olds meet in room 120. At 11:00, the preschool classes are combined, meeting in room 118.
Bridges to Worship at 9:30 am
Bridges to Worship is available to children ages 4-6. Read more about it below.
At the 9:30 hour, all K-6th grade children begin in worship with their parents and transition to class on the 3rd floor with their teachers after the children’s message.
Power Up at 9:30 and 11:00 am
Through drama and small group activities, this fun and creative program helps children connect Biblical stories to the stories of their own lives.
Bridges and Gateways to Worship at 9:30 am
Bridges to Worship is available to children ages 4-6. Through imaginative, playful, storytelling and multi-sensory materials, children experience the wonder and mystery of God. They develop an understanding of worship, who God is, and who they are as His children, all while personally engaging with the major narratives of the Bible.
Gateways to Worship is available to 2nd and 3rd grade children. Through small group community, fun activities and engaging lessons that cover timeless truths about God and his people, kids develop a deeper understanding of worship and their purpose as His children.
Connect at 9:30 am
With an emphasis on community and connecting how Christ is present throughout the narratives of scripture, preteens develop a big picture of what God is doing in this world and what it means to be His people. On the first Sunday of each month, class is cancelled to encourage 4th-12th graders to join full hour worship and celebrate communion. Through games, bible study, small group discussion, worship and service, valuable connections are made at Connect!
Intergenerational Class at 11 am
Provided for 4th grade through adults, the class is gospel centered, accessible to everyone, and provides a great opportunity for preteens to learn with family while developing relationships with congregants of all ages.
Special Needs Buddies
Adult and teen volunteers buddy-up with children who need one-on-one assistance to participate in the various Sunday school classes.
For more information about Sunday School, write to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 703.938.9050 x130 to speak with our Children’s Ministry Senior Manager, Kim Snyder.
Children are welcome to come to Sunday School at any time. If you would like them to appear on the pre-printed rosters, please complete the following form.
Sunday morning nursery is available for children from 1 month through 2 years old at all worship services. It is in the Childcare wing on the 2nd floor, rooms 207-209.
Three classrooms are designed to meet the developmental needs of the children: Lambs are newborns to early walkers, Bunnies are children walking well up to age 2, and Lion Cubs are two year olds.
The nursery is staffed by a committed group of volunteers who nurture and teach our smallest members about the love of Christ. Each room is well-equipped with appropriate, good-quality toys, and we do our best to ensure that each room is kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
We have a comprehensive check-in process that enables parents to leave, confident that their child is safe. Parents are asked to provide a cell phone number and keep their cell phone close by during the service, on vibrate, so we can contact them if needed.

Calling all 4th-6th Graders – Have you Heard about Club?!
FRIENDS. FUN. FOR REAL. That’s what Club is about, and it’s your place to belong! Expect to have a TON of fun making friends, playing awesome games, and learning about how God is real in our everyday lives. Club is a great place to strengthen friendships from Sunday school, and other friends are welcome to come. We hope to see you there!
Save the Dates for Fall!
- Oct. 14, 2016
- Nov. 4, 2016
- Dec. 2, 2016
Parents, while it is not necessary to register for Club ahead of time, you may find that it’s simpler to fill out the info in advance rather than when you arrive. All children need a VPC release form in order to participate with Club so that we have the necessary emergency contact info on file. Please register below.
Also, while 4th-6th grade children are allowed to sign themselves in and out of Club, an adult does need to accompany them to and from the 3rd floor where Club will be hosted. This gives parents a chance to see the fun going on as well as ensuring that your children are safe with their designated guardian for the night.
Parent Activities During Club
Stay tuned for monthly details by email about opportunities for parents to connect at VPC while Club is happening.
Childcare for Children 3rd Grade and Younger
If parents are attending any VPC activity during Club, childcare is available for the younger members of the family. Age appropriate games and fellowship will be provided for them in a safe and fun atmosphere. Please RSVP for childcare at least 48 hours in advance to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that VPC is not licensed as a drop off childcare facility, and parents must be present in the building while their children are in childcare.
For more information about Club, write to email@example.com or call 703.938.9050 x130 to speak with our Children’s Ministry Senior Manager, Kim Snyder.

Sacraments Classes for 3rd-6th Grade Children and Their Parents
The Sacraments classes provide parents and children with instruction on baptism and communion, and are designed to help parents talk with their child about faith and their readiness to participate in baptism (for those not yet baptized) and first communion. Because the classes cover a lot of material, families are expected to attend all three sessions.
Class Topics and Dates in 2017: (all three will start at 11 am)
- March 12: God’s Gift of Grace; separate class for children and parents on the third floor
- March 19: Baptism; separate class for children and parents on the third floor
- March 26: Communion; combined class for children and parents in the Great Hall with a short reception afterwards
Celebration of the Lords Supper – April 2 at all three services.
VPC strongly recommends that children be baptized before taking communion (baptism is the first step in a personal relationship with Christ; taking communion is our on-going commitment to following Him). Baptism for those children not yet baptized will be offered at all three services on April 2, 2016. For more information and to register your child(ren), please visit Baptism.
Registration for the 2017 Sacraments Class will open in February.
