Advent at VPC

Merry Christmas! We celebrate the Advent Season with events for all ages.  There are many opportunities during this season to invite others – family, friends, and neighbors – to experience the hope and joy that we share as a church family, rejoicing in the birth of Christ.

Concerts

Messiah Concert, Sunday, December 3, 4:00pm. Hear the Christmas story told in   music and word. Sung by the VPC Sanctuary Choir with commentary by Pastor Pete James.

Light of the World Family Celebration, a musical nativity and service project shining God’s light to Haiti. Sunday, December 10, 2:00pm. Our children’s choirs present the story of Jesus’ birth, and we in turn spread Christ’s light through packing shoe box gifts for Haiti. Sign up here to donate items for the shoe box.

Cathedral Brass Concert, Sunday, December 10, 4:00pm. A concert for the whole family. Music from jazz to traditional. Featuring  the Cathedral Brass, percussion ensemble, and keyboard.

Glorious Sounds of Christmas, Sunday, December 17, 4:00pm. Celebrate with the VPC Choirs and Brass. Childcare is available. Call to reserve :703.938.9050, x351.

Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24

10:00am – one morning worship service. No Sunday school; childcare provided.

 

Christmas Eve Candlelight Services, Sunday, December 24

Join us for a candlelight service for all ages.

5:00pm – childcare provided.

6:45pm – childcare provided.

8:45pm – childcare is not provided.

10:30pm – communion; childcare is not provided.

 

New Year’s Eve Service, Sunday, December 31

10:00am – one morning worship service. No Sunday school; childcare provided.

 

Service Opportunities

Looking for alternative ways to give to others in need this Advent Season?  Here are some ways to help people in our own backyard and in Haiti.

Committee for Helping Others (CHO) Christmas Store,  collecting new upwrapped gifts for children ages infant to preteen through December 8 in the Great Hall.

 

Gifts from Your Heart, Sundays, December 3, 10, 17, 9-9:30, 10:30-11, and 12:00pm, Great Hall. We are collecting gift cards ONLY from Giant, Safeway, Target, and Walmart to benefit those in our community with deep needs: Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Initiative, Wounded Veterans, Homestretch, Inc., and families of Cunningham Park.

 

“Gifts for Good” Christmas Market, Sundays, December 3, 10, 17,  9:00am – 12:30pm, Great Hall.  You can  purchase a goat, a chicken, a  scholarship, or a handmade craft or jewelry to provide much needed support to our mission partner.

 

Haiti Shoebox Effort, Sunday, December 10, in the Great Hall, following The Light of the World musical nativity. We will pack shoe boxes full of life-saving and  life-enhancing small gifts that will be sent to Haiti.
