Next Gen . . . What? Who? When? Why?

In our society, we are more often separated by the very things that God wants to see unified; all ages and stages becoming like Christ together for the world. Next Gen Ministry is about doing just that! It is not a new trendy phrase, it is a Biblically based model that is throughout scripture and that Christ showed us through His life on this earth. It is not a new program, it is an exciting reminder that we are here to love God, love others; serve God, serve others. We hope you will be part of this life changing reality!

What is ‘Next Gen’ Ministry? It is the church and the family working together to raise the next generation in the faith.

Who is part of ‘Next Gen’ Ministry? Everyone. Everyone? Yes, EVERYONE! Regardless if you are younger or older, single or married, male or female, newly Christian or long time Christian, YOU have a part in this ministry.

Ephesians 4:11 calls us toequip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.”

When am I to do this ministry? Anytime and anywhere. When you engage briefly or serve more intentionally, you can impact the children, students, and families with hope, encouragement, and assurance that they are part of the VPC family and the wider family of Christ! Deuteronomy 6:4-9 encourages us to make it part of our everyday life:

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.

Why should I be part of this ministry? We have a responsibility when we choose to be a Christian: to proclaim

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gives us the ‘Great Commission’ to ‘go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Also, this amazing Psalm of encouragement:

My people, hear my teaching;
    listen to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth with a parable;
  I will utter hidden things, things from of old
things we have heard and known,
    things our ancestors have told us.
We will not hide them from their descendants;
    we will tell the next generation
the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
    his power, and the wonders he has done.
 He decreed statutes for Jacob
    and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
    to teach their children,
so the next generation would know them,
    even the children yet to be born,
    and they in turn would tell their children.
Then they would put their trust in God
    and would not forget his deeds
    but would keep his commands.
