The Rev. Charles Geschiere came to VPC in May 2011 as the Director of Congregational Care. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Calvin College in 1980, a Masters of Divinity (1987) and a Th.M. in Church History (2008) from Calvin Theological Seminary.
Charles was ordained to the ministry in the Christian Reformed Church on December 4, 1987. Prior to coming to VPC, Charles served as the solo pastor to three churches: Archer Avenue CRC, Chicago, IL (1987-1993); Grace CRC, Burke, VA (1993-2001); and Riverside CRC, Grand Rapids, MI (2002-2009).
Charles’ life statement is a quote from pastor and author John Piper: “God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him,” a goal that is both a deep lifelong desire and a great daily challenge. His hope in ministry is that all may find or maintain faith and trust in Christ in and through their circumstances, needs, and trials, to their own deep joy and to Christ’s great glory.
Charles is the eldest of four children, raised near Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He was married to Dawn, whom he met at Calvin, in April 1981; they are blessed with five children: Samuel, Elisabeth, Aaron, Lydia and Grace. Charles is a huge hockey fan, loyal to the Montreal Canadians; he enjoys time spent with family and friends, biking the W&OD trail and hiking; if he has time, he likes to read war history and Presidential biographies. Currently, he is working on completing a book about which he has been researching and writing over the last seven years.
