Sue Hamblen
Director of Missions
As graduates of James Madison University and newlyweds, Sue and her husband, Stacy, moved to Vienna in 1979. They began attending VPC in 1985 with their two daughters, Kim and Cindy, joined by their son Andy who was born in 1988. Her parents, Jack and Dixie Kenyon, soon followed suit and joined VPC – what a joy to worship together as adults! For the past 35 years, Sue has been active in the community and church, serving as an Elder (Class of 2009), Presbyterian Women’s Moderator, PTA President at James Madison High School, Founding Member of Vienna Teen Center Foundation, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troop leader, VPC small group leader, VBS Teacher, and Mission Trip Coordinator. Following a career in computer coding and high tech software sales, she thoroughly enjoyed her ‘18-year maternity leave’ as a stay at home mom! Prior to becoming the Mission Director at VPC, she found great joy as a special education teacher at JMHS.
Sue says that serving as VPC’s Mission Director has blessed her in immeasurable ways. VPC has an amazing group of Christ- following Mission partners and that she has had the great blessing of visiting many of them in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Hungary, El Salvador, Haiti, and Kenya. These wonderful partners are harvesting souls for Christ while providing needed and Christ-mandated humanitarian aid. They have touched and improved literally thousands of lives, and more importantly, shared the Gospel to ensure a life of eternity with our Father in Heaven.
In addition to travel, her greatest joy is being with her family which now includes not only her three children, but their spouses and her six grandchildren!
